For musicians

Musical Links, for musicians

Everything a musician needs, on one page: what Musical Links is, what it costs, what we will and will not do with your recordings, and the questions people actually ask.

Getting started means making an account of your own. It is free, it takes about a minute, and it gets you an artist page plus a link for every track you upload. Nobody needs one to listen.

What it is

Your recordings, each with a link

Musical Links hosts your own recordings and gives each one a link.

Your listener just presses play

The link opens a page with a player on it; your listener presses play and does not sign up, install anything or sit through an advert.

Your page, in your order

Your artist page collects everything you have made public, in the order you choose.

That is the core of it. Everything else is optional.

Three tools in your studio

For when a song needs a little more: a cover, a poster, a cleaner sound. Each one is optional, and each is free today up to a limit on how often it runs.

Make a cover with AI

Pick a style — Painted, Film photo, Screen print or Paper collage — and the studio paints a cover from your song's words. Put your name on it, download it, use it or throw it away.

Three pictures a day. Your song's words go to outside AI services to make it, never your audio. What goes where

A dark A4 poster for Orlowe: their picture, their name, "Scan to listen" and a QR code that opens their page

Print a poster with a QR code

Four designs, A4 or US Letter, dark or light. Anyone who scans it lands on your page and presses play — at a gig, in a shop window, on a notice board.

Ready as soon as one of your songs is public.

You hear it beside your original before anything changes.

Polish this track

Takes out rumble and hiss and brings the track up to release loudness, so it sits next to everything else. It will not fix a muddy mix or a flat take.

Three a day. Your own recording is kept, and you can go back to it.

Private feedback, pinned to the moment

Ask one person at a time what they think of a recording. They listen, pin their notes to the seconds they mean, and send it to you alone. They do not need an account.

What's free

  • Uploading your tracks
  • Playlists
  • The visibility switch
  • Share links
  • The embeddable player
  • The share cards
  • The studio tools: AI covers, QR posters and Polish, up to a limit on each
  • Private feedback links: ask one person at a time what they think of a song
  • Taking everything back out again

Listening is free for everyone.

Musical Links will eventually charge musicians for tools they choose to pay for - mastering, stems, that kind of thing - and a very large catalogue may one day need a paid plan. What you have already uploaded keeps working either way, and anything that does change will be said here before it happens rather than after.

What we will and will not do

How it compares

The honest version, for sharing one track with one person. Where a service's answer depends on the plan, the country or the device, the cell says so.

Sharing a single track, as of August 2026.
Service Listener needs an account? Ads? Plays in the link? Secret links? Take your catalogue out?
SoundCloud Yes Yes in some countries, unless the listener pays Yes Yes Track by track
Dropbox or Google Drive No No Varies by device; often a preview page or a download Yes Yes
Email attachment No No No – it downloads Only as the file itself Yes
Musical Links No No Yes Yes, unlisted links Yes, in one zip

What we will and will not do

Four things, in plain words, each naming the part of Musical Links that keeps it. The first two are commitments: they are repeated in the terms of service, because a promise you cannot hold us to is not a promise. The last two describe how the service is run today - and if either ever has to change, it will be said here and in the terms before it takes effect, not after.

Your music never trains AI

Nothing you upload is used to train a machine-learning model — not by us, and we do not sell, licence or hand your audio to anyone as training data. There is no setting buried in your account that quietly opts you into it.

Two pieces of software do work on your files, both on our own server, and neither sends your audio anywhere. A genre classifier suggests genres when you leave them blank and keeps a small acoustic fingerprint of the sound so “Sounds like this” can find close matches. Polish cleans up and levels a track when you ask it to. One optional tool does reach outside: making a cover with AI sends your song’s words — never the audio — to Anthropic, and a short picture description to Kie.ai. The privacy page says exactly what goes where.

No ads

No banners, no pre-roll, no sponsored tracks in the chart, no promoted anything. Listening is free, and there is nothing sold in front of the music.

Musical Links intends to make its money from musicians who choose to pay for tools, not from a listener's attention. That is what we are building; it is a plan rather than a contract with the future, and if it ever has to change you will read it here first.

No algorithm decides who hears you

Your page shows your catalogue in the order you put it in. There is no recommendation engine choosing which of your tracks is worth showing, no personalised feed, and no ranking that rearranges itself for each visitor.

There is exactly one chart on the site — Rising this week — and it counts one thing: plays gained since last week. It is the same list for everybody, it is not weighted by who is paying, and nothing you can do to your account moves you up it.

Take your music out whenever you like

Everything you upload stays yours, and you can take all of it back out in one click: each song’s audio file as it is on the site — the file you uploaded, or the polished version if you chose to use it —, your artwork, chord sheets, lyrics, descriptions, genres, play counts and running orders, as a single zip file. No support ticket, no waiting for an email, and it is free today.

If Musical Links stops being the right home for your music, we would rather you left with all of it than stayed because leaving was made difficult. Whatever else changes, that will not.

The same is true in the other direction. Put your player on any site that will take an iframe — your own, a label's, a blog that wrote about you — and it links back here rather than keeping the listener somewhere they did not choose.

Export your catalogue

Your music. Your rights.

Uploading a song here changes nothing about who owns it. Here is what does change, what does not, and what happens when you take it down — written for the musician deciding whether to press upload, not for a lawyer.

Uploading is not a transfer

Copyright in a song belongs to whoever wrote and recorded it, and uploading it here does not move it. Whatever rights you and the people you made it with held before, you hold after — Musical Links claims no ownership and no share of anything you earn. What you do need is the right to publish it: if a track is not yours to put up, do not put it up here.

The permission we take, and nothing more

The terms grant Musical Links only what the service technically needs: to store your files, to make the copies and formats required to stream them, and to show them to the people you have chosen. There is no right to sell, licence or hand your music to anyone else, and the permission ends when you delete the song or your account.

You choose who hears it

Every song is public, unlisted or private, and you can change that any time from your studio. Public is on your page and in Browse. Unlisted is off both and out of search, but anyone who holds the link can play it — send it to the people you mean, and reset the link when you are done. Private plays for you alone. Only public songs can be embedded.

About copying, honestly

There is no download button on a song page, and the audio is served by the site rather than as a plain file. But anyone who can play a song can also save or record it — that is true of every site that plays music, and no setting here prevents it. The protection that works is choosing who can reach the song in the first place.

When you delete a song

Its page, link, player and embed stop at once, and nobody but you can reach it. The files themselves are removed when the site’s trash is emptied — thirty days, by WordPress’s default — and there is no undo from the studio, so export first if you might want it back. Anonymous play counts stay in the site’s totals. Deleting a whole account is done by asking us, for now. And keep your own masters: we are a place to share your music, not your only copy.

Taking it all out

One click on your account page exports everything: each song’s audio file as it is on the site — the file you uploaded, or the polished version if you chose to use it — plus artwork, words, chords, credits, genres, play counts and running orders, in one zip. Free, and no ticket to raise.

Written in full, and briefly, in the terms and the privacy page.

Common questions

What formats and sizes can I upload?

MP3, M4A, OGG, WAV and FLAC, up to 100 MB per file. Cover art is a JPEG, PNG, WebP or GIF up to 8 MB. Long tracks are fine.

What is the difference between unlisted and private?

An unlisted track is off your artist page, off Browse and out of search engines, but anyone holding its link can play it. The link carries a secret, so the address cannot be guessed. A private track is not shared at all: no link opens it, and the page and the audio answer not found for every other visitor. A site administrator can still reach files on the server, as on any host.

Both can be changed at any time from your studio, and an unlisted link can be reset, which closes the old one.

Can I share an unreleased song privately?

Yes, as an unlisted song. It stays off your page, off Browse and out of search, and its link carries a secret so the address cannot be guessed. Anyone who holds that link can listen, so send it to the people you mean and reset it when you are done. A private song is stricter still: it plays for nobody but you.

Does my listener need an account?

No. Nobody needs an account to listen. They open the link and press play.

Can I put the player on my own website?

Yes. Every public track and playlist has an embed button that gives you one iframe. Paste it into any site builder that accepts HTML - WordPress, Squarespace, Wix, or a page you wrote yourself. Unlisted and private tracks cannot be embedded, on purpose: an embed is public by nature.

Can I share a track on Instagram, WhatsApp or Messenger?

Paste the link. In most chat and social apps it unfurls into a card with your cover art, the title and your name, so it arrives looking like a track rather than a bare address. Instagram does not make links in captions clickable, so there put it in your bio or a story sticker.

Can I take my music out again?

Yes, all of it, in one click from your account page: each song’s audio file as it is on the site — the file you uploaded, or the polished version if you chose to use it —, your artwork, chord sheets, lyrics, descriptions, genres, play counts and running orders, as a single zip. It is free today, and we would rather you left with everything than stayed because leaving was made difficult.

Is my music used to train AI?

No. Nothing you upload is used to train a machine-learning model — not by us, and we do not sell, licence or hand it to anyone for that. It is one of our promises, and written into the terms. Two tools work on your files on our own server and send nothing out: the genre classifier, which suggests genres and keeps a small acoustic fingerprint so Sounds like this can find close matches, and Polish. One optional tool reaches outside: making a cover with AI sends your song’s words — never the audio — to Anthropic, and a short picture description to Kie.ai. Anthropic says it does not train on them by default; Kie.ai’s terms do not say, which is why it is never given your lyrics. What goes where, in the privacy page.

What does it cost?

Nothing today. Uploading, sharing, embedding, playlists and export are all free, and so are the three studio tools, up to a limit on how often each one runs. Listening is free for everyone. Later there will be paid tools for musicians who want them, such as mastering, and very large catalogues may cost something. If any of what is free today has to change, you will read it here before it happens, not after.

What happens when I delete a song?

In your studio, open the song and choose Delete. To delete a whole account, ask us through the contact page; there is no button for it yet.

How are plays counted?

A play is counted when a track starts, once per listener per hour, so someone pressing play five times in a row counts once. Listeners is the same idea over a month: how many places the track reached. Nothing is stored about who they were, only a salted, expiring marker that says already counted.

Can I change the order of a playlist?

Yes. Open the playlist in your studio and drag the tracks, or move them with the keyboard, into the running order you want. A track can sit in several playlists, each with its own order, and a playlist never reveals a track its listener could not already reach.

Does Musical Links own my music, or get to sell it?

Neither. The terms say it in one line: we claim no ownership of your music and no share of anything you earn from it. What you grant is the permission the service needs to run — storing your files, making the copies needed to stream them, and showing them to the people you chose. Nothing in it lets us sell, licence or pass your music to anyone, and it ends when you delete the song or your account. It is spelled out in the terms of service.

Can other people download or copy my songs?

Anyone who can play a song can also save or record it. There is no download button on a song page and the audio is served by the site rather than as a plain file, but no site that plays music can stop a listener keeping what they hear, and we will not pretend this one does. The protection that works is choosing who can reach the song: private, or unlisted and sent only to the people you trust.
